About Hiking:
One of the famous Buddhist stupa is known as Nagarjuna Hill which is about 7km. from Kathmandu at the height of 2128 m. The hill is called Jamacho by local language as cave of residence of Nagarjuna who is a famous Buddhist saint meditated here. Once time in year, it is celebrated a festival, Tht time trail is full of visitors hiking to Nagarjuna Hill.
A motorable road leads through Raniban (Queen forest) to this stupa. It takes about 45 minutes to reach there in motor/jeep while hike is about 5 km. on foot and takes about 2 hours. It is quite steep and one has to climb about 754 m. There is about 20-30 ft stupa height. Nagarjuna hill is also described in literature as Vindya mountain. It has a view tower which provides the magnificient panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley and the mountains on the northern side. The terrace of the Buddhist gompa also provides a good view of the southern, western and eastern parts of the valley.
